How To Register with the UGA REDD+ Registry

The UGA REDD+ Registry ensures transparency and tracks forest carbon credits. Secure results-based payments and drive climate action in Uganda.

Please ensure all submitted documents are current and valid. If any mandatory requirement is outdated or missing, your application will be considered incomplete. We advise you to review this checklist thoroughly before submission to ensure full adherence to the UGA REDD+ initiative requirements.

Submit your application and any inquiries to the REDD+ Secretariat (FSSD/ MWE) for processing.

Information Required from Landowners & Project Developers:

  1. Group/Community Certificates: Certified documentation proving legitimate ownership or management rights over the proposed project land (e.g., Land Title, Certificate of Customary Ownership, Community Agreement).
  2. Geo-Referenced Boundary Map: A detailed digital sketch map (KML/KMZ file) clearly defining the perimeter of the proposed project area.
  3. Draft Land-Use Plan: A preliminary plan outlining current and proposed future land uses within the project area.
  4. Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) Record: Documentation demonstrating that free, prior, and informed consent has been obtained from all relevant stakeholders and landholding communities.
  5. Benefit Sharing Plan (BSP) & Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM): A draft proposal detailing how benefits will be distributed fairly and transparently, alongside a mechanism to address any concerns or disputes.
  6. Local Government Approval: Letters of support or approval from the relevant local district and community leadership authorities where the project is located.

Project Development Documentation

To formally register a REDD+ project for evaluation and approval, proponents must submit a complete set of mandatory documents to the UGA REDD+ Registry, managed by the REDD+ Secretariat at the Ministry of Water and Environment. The following requirements are essential to ensure your project adheres to national REDD+ standards and procedures.

  • Project Concept Note (PCN): A preliminary document outlining the core idea, objectives, and initial design of the REDD+ project. This should be submitted alongside the mandatory requirements listed above.
  • Project Design Document (PDD): A comprehensive document providing full technical details of the project. The PDD can be submitted at a later stage, following feedback received from the Technical Working Group (TWG) after their review of the Project Concept Note.
